Sarasota has an incredible main library with three statues on the property. The library was built in 1998 and offers a contemporary design with classic elements. Some say the columns are inspired by the shape of pineapples.
You will find statues and art throughout downtown Sarasota, which is by design. Each piece has to be approved by the city's art committee and is required by any business in the historical downtown district.
Best friends is a statue of a boy and his dog. It was donated to the library in 2000 by Richard and Jean Ehlers and family as part of the library's public art collection. This bronze piece was designed by artist Chris Navarro.
The statue sits at the south entrance to the building, facing the city's Five Points Park.
